"Power of Song," Sing-Along, Celebrates Pete Seeger at the Naro

New movie, timeless message on screen, followed by live performance

December 4, 2007 -- A gathering of some of Hampton Road's finest folk performers, from different generations, will celebrate the debut of an important new motion picture celebrating the life and music of folk legend and humanitarian Pete Seeger.

"The Power of Song" will screen at Norfolk's Naro Expanded Cinema this weekend as part of the "Festival of Light."  The 5:00 PM showing will feature a "hootenanny" sing-along before and after the movie, hosted by longtime folk favorite Bob Zentz and BOB-FM's Hunter Hughes.

"Many of the performers' own music was directly or indirectly influenced by the amazing contributions of Pete Seeger," says Zentz.  "His music crosses all barriers of age, race, nationality, politics and musical typecasting, to demonstrate the true 'power of song' as a force that just might bring the inhabitants of this diverse planet together."

Zentz considers Seeger both a mentor and a friend, having crewed and performed aboard Seeger's Hudson River sloop "Clearwater," repairing the Hudson River and spreading the word about preserving our waterways, from 1989-91.  Zentz and Hughes will be joined at the sing-along by musical guests Amy Ferebee, Regina Sanford, Jim Newsom, Skye Zentz, and Dustin Hogue.  The sing-along is free with regular movie admission of $8.00 at the door.

For five decades, Bob Zentz has been at the heart of the Hampton Roads traditional music scene.  The Norfolk native performs internationally yet still lives and performs in his hometown, and is active in nurturing the next generation of traditional music performers, in the belief that the future of our world depends upon our youth, and music.  Information about Bob's music, life, friends, performances, and programs for all ages – elementary school to elders – is available at www.bobzentz.com
