Casey’s Concertina

From Closehauled on the Wind of a Dream

1.  There are lights flashin’ in the harbor  (C-F-C)

From ships at anchor, where they ride  (C-G)

And a dry wind blowin’ through the palm trees  (C-F)

The long, low murmur of the tide  (C-G-C)

There’s noise and laughter from the foc’s’le  (G-C)

And the bare feet beating out a tune  (F-C-G)

To the sound of Casey’s concertina  (C-F)

Underneath the great gold moon  (C-G-C)

Underneath the great gold moon, my boys  (C-G-C)

Underneath the great gold moon  (F-C-G)

That creaky ol’ leaky concertina  (C-F)

Underneath the great gold moon  (C-G-C)

2.  There’s a milky glimmer in the water

And the lonely glimmer of the stars

And a light breeze blowin’ up the roadstead

And a voice a-sighin’ in the spars

A-sighin’, cryin’ in the backstays

And the furled sails sleeping overhead

And the sound of Casey’s concertina

Singin’ of a time that’s fled

Singin’ of a time that’s fled, my boys

Singin’ of a time that’s fled

     That creaky ol’ leaky concertina

Singin’ of a dream that’s fled

(repeat verse one and chorus)
