Waiting For Dawn

From Beaucatcher Farewell

Music and lyrics © 1979 Bob Zentz

(In F# Ė capo 2)

When the shadows come on, Iíll be waiting for dawn  (E-A-E)

When this desert seems sullied and gray  (E-F#-B7)

When the cook-fire burns low, tired and weary, Iíll know  (E-A-E)
That dawn cannot be far away  (E-B7-E)

And Iíll wait with my songs in the saddle (A-E)

Itís a hot dusty world way out there  (E-F#-B7)

And a damn lonesome life punchiní cattle  (E-A)

Make me live for the moment when dawn will be near  (E-B7-E)

2.  When the trail boss gets rough and the goiní gets tough

And the noon sun is too hot to bear

Iíll be riding along, makiní up some new song

ĎBout morniní, when dawn will be near

And I ride with my song in the saddle

Itís a hot dusty world way out there

And a damn lonesome life punchiní cattle

Makes me live for the moment when dawn will be near

3.  In the evenings Iíll lie under Godís starry sky

And the stars seem to whisper in rhyme

Have patience, old friend, every roundup must end

You been waitiní for dawn a long time

And I wait with my songs and my saddle

In that hot dusty world way out there

Itís a damn lonesome life punchiní cattle

Makes you live for the morniní when dawníll be there

4.  So when this long drive is over, this lonesome drover

Hit the trails without a care

Iíll go off and find me some peace of mind

In the morniní when dawníll be there

Now I lie on the ground in my bedroll

Not a pillow to rest my head on

And I empty my mind of these dusty old times

Lie there and dream about dawn

     (repeat last chorus)
